Mutant Name: cev1
| Gene Name | CesA3 |
| Protein Name | cellulose synthase |
| Mutagen | EMS |
| Category | forward genetics |
| Organism | Arabidopsis thaliana |
| Ecotype | Col |
| Donor | |
| General Description |
1. The cev1 mutation G617E is in a cytoplasmic loop in a region conserved within plant cellulose synthases. 2. cev1 plants have constitutive expression of stress response genes, increased production of jasmonate and ethylene and enhanced resistance to fungal pathogens. 3. The mutant plants are smaller than wild type, had stunted roots with long root hairs, and accumulated anthocyanin. |
| Organ Specificity | CEV1 is expressed in anthers, roots, and midvein tissue. |
| Impact on Wall | |
| Impact on Sugar Composition | Roots of mutant plants contain 45% of the cellulose of wild-type roots. |
