Mutant Name: csld3-1
| Gene Name | CslD3 |
| Protein Name | cellulose synthase-like protein |
| Mutagen | T-DNA |
| Category | forward genetics |
| Organism | Arabidopsis thaliana |
| Ecotype | Col |
| Donor | |
| General Description |
The csld3-1 mutation specifically affects root hair growth. In the mutant, root hairs were initiated at the correct position and grew into a bulge, but their elongation was severely reduced. |
| Organ Specificity | RT-PCR data showed that the CslD3 gene is expressed in every plant organ tested: leaves, stems, flowers, roots and silliques. |
| Impact on Wall | The tips of the csld3-1 root hairs easily leaked cytoplasm, indicating that the tensile strength of the cell wall had changed at the site of the tip. |
| Impact on Sugar Composition | |
