Mutant Name: csld3-1

Gene Name CslD3
Protein Name cellulose synthase-like protein
Mutagen T-DNA
Category forward genetics
Organism Arabidopsis thaliana
Ecotype Col
Donor
General Description The csld3-1 mutation specifically affects root hair growth. In the mutant, root hairs were initiated at the correct position and grew into a bulge, but their elongation was severely reduced.
Organ Specificity RT-PCR data showed that the CslD3 gene is expressed in every plant organ tested: leaves, stems, flowers, roots and silliques.
Impact on Wall The tips of the csld3-1 root hairs easily leaked cytoplasm, indicating that the tensile strength of the cell wall had changed at the site of the tip.
Impact on Sugar Composition
