Mutant Name: fgp1(fiber gus positive1)
| Gene Name | BXL1 |
| Protein Name | xylosidase (beta) |
| Mutagen | T-DNA |
| Category | forward genetics |
| Organism | Arabidopsis thaliana |
| Ecotype | Ws |
| Donor | |
| General Description |
1.Mutants had a T-DNA insertion in the promoter sequence 700bp upstream of the ATG of a putative beta-xylosidase gene. 2.Under dry conditions, the size of the transformant was reduced when compared to that of the wild type. 3.AtBXL1 Gene is expressed specifically in tissues undergoing secondary wall thicking. The gene product is located in the extracellular matrix. |
| Organ Specificity | AtBXL1 gene is expressed in tissues undergoing secondary cell wall thickening. |
| Impact on Wall | Mutants showed extensive secondary cell wall formation. |
| Impact on Sugar Composition | No alteration in the overall sugar composition was observed. |
