Mutant Name: mur4
| Gene Name | MUR4 |
| Protein Name | UDP-D-Xyl-4-epimerase |
| Mutagen | EMS |
| Category | forward genetics |
| Organism | Arabidopsis thaliana |
| Ecotype | Col |
| Donor | |
| General Description |
1.The mur4 mutant shows a 50% reduction in the monosaccharide L-arabinose in most organs and affects arabinose-containing pectic cell wall polysaccharides and arabinogalactan proteins. 2.Reduced membrane-bound UDP-xylose 4-epimerase activity. |
| Organ Specificity | The Ara content of ethanol-insoluble glycans varied substantially between organs, from an overall 50% reduction in cotyledons, leaves, and flowers to a 75% reduction in elongating inflorescence stems. |
| Impact on Wall | The mur4 mutation affected the cell wall polysaccharides as well as the AGPs. |
| Impact on Sugar Composition | The mur4 mutantion caused a 50% reduction in the monosaccharide L-arabinose in most organs. |
